How to Sound Natural and Confident When Public Speaking—Even When the Pressure's On
Many people fear freezing on stage when the stakes are high.
Especially when they’ve spent hours memorizing every word, and if you miss even one word, that throws off the entire speech.
If that’s ever been you, keep reading.
Recently, I gave a live talk to a room full of entrepreneurs, some Toastmasters, the Coquitlam city mayor, and a few city councillors were there.
There were other speakers- most used notes- but instead of scripting my talk, I did what I teach in my mini-course: I followed a simple, flexible structure that keeps you sounding natural, no matter what the stakes.
I never outlined my talk. I never wrote any of it down. It was the second time I told one of the stories. I was perfectly in my time. Is this a flex?
Yes, because I'm tired of hearing excuses around speaking or people saying, "I'm not good at it," Or "You're (meaning me) a natural."
What irks me is how few people take formal speaking lessons.
Am I a pro speaker? Yes. Do I get nervous in high-stakes speaking positions? Sure, we all do... do nerves hamper my performance, they have... does that slow me down in any way, never.
What's the difference between me and others?
I've spent thousands of dollars working with high-level coaches, and thousands of hours recording and perfecting my style.
The result...
... for me: I'm at home on any stage, just give me the mic.
... for clients: I teach my clients how to be powerhouse speakers in HOURS... Not days or years or months... I teach my clients how to crush it on stage in HOURS. By using everyday conversations as a means to develop your skills.
Let’s break it down.
Public Speaking Confidence in Real Life: What This Video Shows
The video you’re about to watch does two things:
- It shows me sharing a second draft speech.
- Yes, the audio sucks and you can't hear the audience laughing or participating. I had a lapel mic but it wasn't working proerly.
- It explains why the talk worked.
- I walk through the exact structure I outline in my Magnetic Message Blueprint Mini-Course.
Spoiler: It’s not about memorizing.
It’s not about perfect delivery.
It’s about clarity, timing, and controlling your energy.
The Storytelling Structure That Helps You Speak Naturally
I call it the Hook → Filler → Hook → Filler → Banger.
Think of it like a rhythm:
- Hook: Grabs attention.
- Filler: Builds context.
- Hook: Grabs attention.
- Filler: Builds context.
- Banger: Delivers the insight, the twist, or the punch.
It’s not magic. It’s mechanics.
And once you know how it works, you can apply it to any talk, any story, and keep people's attention.
Why Most Speakers Still Sound Robotic (And How to Fix It)
Here’s what I see all the time:
- Trying to memorize every line for a first delivery- the first delivery is not about memorizing every line, its about throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. I wouldn't recommend memorizing every line until at least the 3rd-5th delivery.
- Practicing in your head when you need to be practicing out loud.
- Overthinking every word when you should be focused on getting the timing down.
- Worrying about freezing/rambling/sounding scripted when you should be thinking about crushing it.
Experience reveals the real problems:
- People aren't practicing like they speak.
- People aren't speaking like they practice- AKA- using daily conversations to speak like they would on stage.
The Magnetic Message Blueprint changes that.
It’s a 5-day course that teaches you how to sound natural—even under pressure—by training your speaking like a skill, not a performance.
Real-World Public Speaking Tips for High-Stakes Moments
This isn’t theory. It’s what I do.
And in this video, I show you how it plays out.
So if you’ve ever thought:
“I know what I want to say… but I can’t seem to say it how I mean it.”
Then you’ll want to watch this breakdown—and grab the full course.
